The Political Agitation & Economic Depression In Pakistan

Uncertainty is one of the elements that make even probability of success or failure in anything. Pakistan is about to celebrate 68th year of independence still after years of freedom it is full with surprises & rich in uncertainty. At the time of independence, it was supposed to be welfare Islamic state, but after years of independence, if we look at the overall situation of major sectors like power, employment, security, food, education, agriculture, economy supposed to be backbone of country are suffering from severe crisis.

If we lookout for the core factor worsening the situation of almost all the sector is ‘Politics’. In terms of definition politics is the composition of activities & practices of the people of state for the acquisition of power and government affairs, but the culture of Pakistani politics tells different story. After the elections of 2013, the political tug of war between two status quo parties shattered rest of the economic stability left after the destruction of terrorism. One to one tension between Pakistan political parties comes both at national as well as provincial level, which are as follows:

  1. Pakistan PTI accused another political group PML-N for alleged rigging both at federal and provincial level.
  2. The settled and unsettled matters between PPPP & MQM for Sindh’s devolution of power.
  3. Political tension between ANP and MQM for the manifestation of power.

Country had situations after the announcement of protest by PTI:

  • It was due to proclamation before the start of protest, the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) closed on 666.24 down points.
  • UN Human Development Report 2014 revealed that Pakistan has 146th among meager income countries, this situation would have been more after violence.
  • Last year, Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) released poverty survey, which mentioned that 58.7 million people are living their life under the menace of multidimensional poverty among which 46 % are rural and 18% are urban, certainly, after nonviable economic situation, indicators were not in good position.

When political situation of the country got unstable after the start of protest, revival & continuity of economic policies became uncertain. Consequently, it reduced the investment and productivity in the economy. As political instability further increased after violence in protest, it grew unrest in the form of strikes and demonstrations at public level that ceased the economic growth routine of firms & markets. By the persistence of bad political situation, prices of fuel got height that also increased the prices of consumable items of daily use by decreasing the purchase power of common person. Such situation also boosted inflationary rate, unemployment, civil disobedience, national harmony and many other problems.

Suggestively, political leaders are the asset of homeland, so it makes them responsible about critical condition. When a political circumstance of the country goes worse, then economic condition gets a shape seen last eight years, along with nation that is in state of war since eleven years to combat the menace of terrorism.

After all this, elections for local government, by-elections and results on election dispute are pending from Supreme Court of Pakistan. Fluctuations in the electoral temperature also oscillates the economical condition of country, in such situations, political parties should play a responsible role to protect economy from down phases.

Pakistani Media revival

In Past the responsibility of the Pakistani media, particularly television channels was significantly central during the general elections in Pakistan February 2008.

Earlier than the general elections, there was a dictatorship rule of Gen Parvez Musharraf. He unchained the electronic media to the level he could. During his tenure many new television channels popped up. And this is what he had been praising himself of.

But luckily or unluckily, this autonomy boomerang on him. The lately aired channels held talk-shows all along with the hourly news bulletins. And the subject of the talk-shows used to be the current and established political state of affairs.

An analysis was performed in 2007. And the outcome was astonishing. It was screening that the talk-shows were being observed with more importance than dramas or any other amusement/entertainment series. The boost in talk-shows’ audience shows towards a fashion in the Pakistani society. The new trend in Pakistani media was a new stage that puts them that they are more concerned and by the support of the nation they decided to show their power in whatever matter which is concerning.

On commanding emergency in November 2007, Gen Musharraf told his American friends that the Pakistanis were not able sufficient to have a independent system carrying out in their country. They required a long time to study the democratic values. They were still in a learning stage.

The end result of the general elections simply reverse the theory of the Gen. Not only the nullification was a hinder to the Gen, he had to accept a farewell guard of honor and had to quit the presidency exaltation a practical consequence.

The problem is: why couldn't the Gen verify what he stated of his people in Nov 2007? And another query, which should be taken as an extension or the other facet of the preceding query i.e. what proved the Gen off beam, forced him to give up and how at all did it all happen?

The reason to all aforementioned queries was that our nation needed a change and through talk shows which discussed the current matters in an unbiased approach won the hearts of the nation, who were earlier deprived by watching the same tone news over and over again.

The role of media has been deliberately great which aware the nation continuously over serious matters, like the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, the General elections, the government challenges, the long marches, crisis in Pakistan and many other matters. And it’s just not through television it’s through social media too, through which the people share their views about a particular matter which was however difficult through television.

Pakistan's challenges (Political aspects)

Pakistan's challenges (Political aspects)
Pakistan's challenges (Political aspects)

Pakistan came into being in 1947. Since its beginning it has been bounded by innumerable inner as well as outdoor troubles. All these troubles appear to have grown to be fortune of our country. troubles like paucity, illiteracy, joblessness, provincialism, Baluchistan issue, radicalism, violence etc. are currently airs a great danger to our survival. regardless of being prosperous in natural resources we still are not capable to exploit them completely and moderately. Due to underutilization of these huge possessions, we are still a way behind in the pursuit of expansion. Not only inner troubles have kept the Government of  Pakistan occupied but also outer tribulations have always been a attach from blue for our country. It is a truth that every nation is facing troubles in one form or the other. But in the scenario of Pakistan, due to misconduct, troubles have been becoming permanent. It is mostly due to the maltreatment of the inner issues. Our country is trailing its true picture. This has end up in overseas involvements into our state affairs and has damaged our development.

The present era is the age of low intensity conflicts instead of typical wars. So, it's very necessary is the our internal dynamics, challenges and threats like national integration, ethnicity, narrow-mindedness, drug mafia, social group, dangerous economic conditions and economic discrepancy, and geographic vulnerabilities. The most internal fronts that are directly moving the policy of Pakistan are the followings;

Political stability is one among the prime worry that Pakistan has commencing the terribly begin. No government to date might are able to complete its term. The incompetence of our leaders has invariably provided the military a golden likelihood to topple the electoral governments. each military ruler has taken over the facility with uncounted guarantees to the lots. however with the passage of your time, they solely prolonged their rule and served their unconditional interests.

Furthermore, judiciary has conjointly been instrumental in providing a legal cowl to the military rule the country. it's invariably supported the autocratic steps taken by the dictators below the “Doctrine of necessity”. Such a weak and incompetent judiciary has ne'er allowed the democracy to flourish on our soil. that the absence of democracy has born to varied different problems/threats.
Other challenges aspects will be posted in other sessions. If you are looking for deep down information of any political issue do visit www.pakvoter.org

No more Bogus Election

No more bogus election
No more Bogus Election

Democracy is just about elections, but still the electoral course has tremendous implication in a democratic system as it is the keystone of gigantic structure of democracy. The electoral progression gives right to persons to choose their council who eventually power political establishment and path of a government. In any cultured system, while using the word elections, lucidity of the whole procedure i.e., similar to free and fair is by evasion enclosed in the connotation of the expression election.

This has also been acknowledged as essential human right in the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights which sates in its Article 21 that "Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives... The will of people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures."

The globally established essential ingredients for elections in a supreme democracy to effort are that they should be intervocalic, authentic, held according to general suffrage and by undisclosed ballot.

For being intervocalic, there should be an ingredient of assurance of time interval in which they are to be held e.g., 4 or 5 years or any lawfully precise gaps guaranteeing the citizens a possibility to amend their influential or hold up new strategies.

For being authentic means they should be liberated and fair presenting equivalent openings for challenging candidates and political parties without gratuitous limitations of law, fair entrance to media for all and a sovereign and nonaligned electoral course.
For guarantee general suffrage, there should be utmost contribution with easy and straightforward voter registration processes for society with exposed least legitimate limitations such as age, residence, proof of identity, etc.

For being held on the standard of undisclosed ballot, the idea is to make sure that no one apart from the voter knows whom he has voted for. The purpose is to avoid pressure or act of vengeance by those enjoying supremacy in a civilization whichever due to their political, organizational or financial condition.

For making certain that these essential ingredients are an element of any electoral course, there is a need to have an impartial, autonomous and sovereign establishment enjoying reliance of the citizens and political parties to demeanor elections. In countries like Pakistan which have knowledgeable extensive periods of dictatorship, the fundamental ingredients for a liberated and fair election have always been tinker with by the system to attain results as per their needs.

Unlike techniques approved for this idea have been ambiguity of their timing, making laws to prohibit ‘undesirable’ political parties who could sham confront to decree military rule, organizational bear to ‘desirable’ parties or candidates and above all maintaining a feeble election conducting body which should neither have the will nor the aptitude to make certain a liberated and fair election.

Consequently, the leeway for citizens to articulate their spirit and chance to modify their leaders and speak to wrongs is vanished and reliability of the elections is habitually challenged. Therefore, people mislay faith not only in the electoral use but also in democracy as elections are basis of the same. This is normally followed by a political organization marked by variance and volatility escalating the case of malfunction of democracy and in most cases leading back into the ferocious series of dictatorship.

Good Governance Accountability

There are certain essential ethics that remain unchanged across margins that doesn't depend upon language, traditions or so norms of a region. For example, we have not seen anywhere in the world, heaps demanding prevalent chaos and disorder, on the opposing side, world over people wants to have an efficient structure of supremacy to uphold statue of law in the people. Hence, it feels safe and sound to imagine seeing regulation and strength in the culture is something that is intrinsic to all human beings. It is this vital necessity that impels us all to assemble following political leaders, applaud for them during convoy and vote for them during elections. Hoping, all time that our leader will bring forward peace, prosperity and change in the society when he/she will be in power. Nevertheless, our hope to witness betterment in the world is not time bound and so it does not finish subsisting upon casting the vote. These hopes persist after new government is in charge, motivating us to examine their strategies, course of actions of government authorities and their leaders.

It is the movement for steady development in the milieu that mounts another fundamental assessment that globally people know as ACCOUNTABILITY.

Many people consider Accountability as the fourth leg of the figurative chair for good domination. It helps many to appraise the value of public administrator and offices, making sure that they are performing at their best and guarantee to serve their people at any time of their need.

So how can we exercise accountability in our society? From what means a voter can share his/her concerns? How can we complain? How can we reach government authorities?

In Pakistan there are many organizations whose solitary rationale is to make sure that the government and its offices are running their matters evidently. There are some organizations in which an ordinary person can submit his complaint regarding the functioning of the government. For example in NAB (National Accountability Bureau) which is an anti corruption organization and every Pakistani is adequate to submit his or her complaint against any government authority, political leader or bureaucratic along with witnesses.

Parliament of Pakistan is another one of the most important organization in the succession of accountability. The parliament is not only the bridge between people and government but its role is critical in terms of accountability institutions report. And through parliament, its people and civic groups can have different information about laws and policies.

In other way there are many sources through which a government can ensure effective governance's. And it’s just not government; it’s the responsibility of the citizens too, as they help government in running good terms.

Parliamentary Democracy after Independence

After 1947 independence, the Government of Pakistan has faced serious problems in ruling both East and West Pakistan, East and West Pakistan were the two wings of Pakistan but it was hard for even Liaqut Ali khan who was the first PM of Pakistan to hold them together as Pakistan was newly established. After misleading by Government there was military coup in 1958.

The war of Kashmir that was started in 1947, M.A Jinnah and Liaqut Ali khan were busy to resolve the riots and the problems that were faced by refugees. The pioneering work was done by Liaqut Ali khan for the foreign policies of Pakistan by proposing plans towards the constitution’s formulation.

The objective resolution was the prologue to the further constitutions of Pakistan. The objective resolution was passed in 1949 and is described as “MAGNA CARTA” of the constitutional history of Pakistan. The US and Soviet Union sent invitations to Liaqut Ali, although he chose to pay benevolence visit to US first. Apparently it was observed as a denial to Moscow and has been traced to insightful unfavorable cost. He chooses to be neutral in this cold war, declaring after independence of Pakistan that it would not participate in the conflicting ideologies of the nations. Later, he tried to make a visit to Soviet Union but it didn't happen.

In the same year, M.A. Jinnah declares Urdu as the official language of Pakistan, which ignited protest in East and West Bengal, where the Bengali language was spoken mostly. Jinnah also counters problems for the Chief Commander of Pak Army, Gen. Sir Douglas Gracey who refuses to obey the orders given by M.A Jinnah. Gracey bicker that M.A Jinnah as the Governor General represents the British Crown, which he himself was an appointee and that is the reason why he didn't send throngs to the Kashmir. And it was just not Army; Jinnah also faced problems with Air vise Marshal Richard Atchereley, and with the Chief Commander of the Navy Rear Admiral James, who also refused to pay attention to any orders given by M.A Jinnah.

During Khan’s occupancy, Pak and India agreed upon resolving the Kashmir issue in a peaceful manner by the efforts of UN. In that agreement it was decided to ceasefire on 1st Jan 1949 and the unbiased plebiscite will promulgate under the control of UN.

After the death of Jinnah in 1948, major problems arouses from the religious minorities bursting in late 1949 and early in 1950s. activist from Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan started to hit the minorities in West Pakistan, which was later slithered to India. After intellection of another war against India, Liaqut Ali Khan met PM of India that was Jawaharlal Nehru, who signed up on the contract named as Liaqut Nehru Pact in 1950. The pact was an endeavor to better the relations and lessen the tensions encountered by both countries and also to guard the religious minorities on both sides of the borders.

In 1952, the Bengali language movement reached on its peak in east of Pakistan, when the riots started between police and students near the Dhaka Medical college who were protesting to have a equal status with Urdu. The protesters were killed in a large amount. After that, Government decides to provide equal status to Bengali language as the state language of Pakistan in the 1956 constitution of Pakistan.

Which to vote?

As election nearby, election campaign starts to began in which our political parties leader give the best of their energetic and vigorous speech. Public might fall in their sugar coating that what they will do if they will rule, but soon after their rule their all promises seems to fail and their tone changes  completely.

A common strategy to public is to either not to vote or voting the candidate without knowing that whether he has done something for them or not. In election times the leaders may distribute food or other goodies but don’t look at that. Seek  for what they have done before elections.try to find out their work in your area if the political candidate you voted in last election doesn't show up good response don’t vote for that but try a new one which you think that by giving chance to him he can show up some good work. Do not become a die hard follower of one party only for all your life, try for a change to bring change.

History of Pakistan has  showed  us some die hard followers of all time they didn't try any other and didn't bring change in their society instead they make their families also bound to that party. This system thus enhances the probability of the loop in which these parties will come into rule. Some areas specially are known as “ Garh” far a particular party and you will discover not a single voter of any other party which is extremely wrong. When we talk about having democracy where freedom of speech, rights and vote occur pioneering such situation is extremely bad.

If we will run for change definitely change will come towards us. The political parties leaders will see that no more traditions of die hard followers has left because we haven't done anything for them so they wont vote us so this time we've to do something for them so they do vote for us. But unfortunately we haven't done any of this we've been departed in parties defending whether they have done something wrong or right, hunting for rivals parties weaknesses and ignoring our own one.

The mistake is not of politicians but we’re the guilty one because we've let them a chance to do that for us and that things is the biggest  obstacle in the establishment of Pakistan. Try to know your political candidates at their best and search for their work in the development of the society if you find nothing interesting don’t vote for that even he/she belong high profile party instead go for the candidate who is passionate to accomplish his work.

Do vote and vote and vote for right candidate, if your family member are willing to vote another party don’t try to force them to vote yours instead encourage their point of view.

Creditworthy citizen

Elections where a responsible citizen feels encouraging for bringing change in the society. The right of vote belongs to the people having age of 18 or more whether men or women. Pakistan constitution puts no restrictions in the name of gender and it fully support role of women in politics. The Political history has shown some great leaders like Benazir who rule the Pakistan political party i.e. PPP for years.

Being a responsible citizen is not just a so called duty of the Pakistani but the utter promise that we should make to the leaders that put great efforts to get a separate own land where everyone has a right to worship his God according to his or her own believes. Thinking of bringing change to the society feels that you’re alone in the world of aliens then think how Quiad-e-Azam would feel ages ago demanding a separate own homeland for not only Muslims but also for the people belonging other religions and on what account he feels so attached  by the suffering Muslims in sub-continent?

The answer is yet not simple for the people who feel strange towards their country ethics!

The leader like him who is well educated, having great career ahead and living a luxurious life why he feel the pain why he believes in Two Nation Theory? Why he urged every Pakistani to become educated to serve his or her country? Why he urge not to fall in the cast and creeds departing each other’s in Sindhi, Balochis, Pathans and Punjabi's because a true leader knows that United we stand and Divided we fall.

Unfortunately by witnessing such Political and non-political conditions of Pakistan we've somehow forget the true essence of being a patriotic Pakistani where the love of raising the image and standard of country has been lost in the piles of own greed’s where the self-image should be better the country’s image doesn't matter, where we feel ashamed to tell someone that we’re Pakistani, where to change the nationality is the premium quality dream.

To discover the responsible of such conditions we will answer the Government of Pakistan however the stakeholders for this cause are many including us!

We do not vote because we think that one vote can how bring change? The hope of our true leader is shattered by his nation by giving such under statements. We break the laws because we think that when everyone is breaking law then why not me?

A leader having such traits cannot be reborn in a society like this where no one has moral values, but the country is surviving as we've brave soldiers and some of responsible citizens.

We desperately need some more personalities like our Quaid to save our ship from drowning. The change will however not that easy by simply just voting however by understanding the responsibilities that are due on us one by one and to take start from somewhere is necessary then not to take!!!
